KUWAIT, NOV 29, 2016: One hundred and fifteen domestic helpers in the North Arabian Vicariate participated in Domestic Helpers Day celebrations, organised by Salmiya Parish Youth (SPY) on November 25.
The day was ear marked to celebrate the helpers who work tirelessly day and night without fixed workings hours at minimum wages. The day began with the celebration of Holy Mass. In his homily, Father Lionel Braganza referred to the star at Christmas that led the Magi and the shepherds to Jesus in the manger.
He added that each must become a star to guide and help others to understand and celebrate the true spirit of Christ's coming. Moved by the homily, Mary D'souza said, "Rather than focusing too much on decorations, gifts, clothes, and making sweets, each of us ought to prepare spiritually for the coming of Jesus Christ."
After Holy mass, the helpers participated in a series of games organised by volunteers. A short jam session followed. The surprise element of the day was the fashion show. All present walked the ramp to the cheers and whistles of the crowd.
The day concluded with a short prayer led by Father Braganza. The celebration would not have been possible without the generosity of the parishioners and the kind Samaritans who sponsored the event. Each helper present received a Christmas gift hamper and goodies.
Aunty Mabel, as she is lovingly called, said, "I really had a great day and we want to thank the church, Father Lionel, SPY and all the sponsors! May God bless you; we will always pray for you."
