MUMBAI, DEC 16, 2016: Eight Mumbai-based schools participated in St. Joseph High Schools Inter School Athletic Meet that was held at St. Xavier's Sports Ground, Parel on December 3.
The event was a celebration of sports and culture as students took part in aerobics, drill displays, yoga displays, gymnastics, various track and field events, before enacting a Tableau on the history of various sports.
The Chief Guest for the Inter School Sports event was Dr Rajendra Rangnath Dhakne, Vice-Principal and Professor of BPCA's College of Physical Education.
He was welcomed along with the other guests for the day, Rector and Principal Father Godfrey D'sa, Vice Principal and Pre-Primary Co-ordinator Father Vivian D'Souza, Administrator Father Rosario Vaz, Headmistress Sangita Bhattacharya, Secondary Supervisor Prabha Rao and Primary Head teacher Matilda Fernandes.
The event began with a prayer invoking God's blessings. The Chief Guest then hoisted the school flag signifying the rising values of sportsmanship and leadership.
Father D'Sa then introduced the Chief Guest and thanked him for gracing the event. A team of Festival torchbearers then carried the flame symbolising the true spirit of sportsmanship. They included Aadesh Ramraje, State Level Handball Champion, Twain Fernandes , National Level Football Champion, Yash Pardeshi, National Level Gymnast and Faiz Mohammed National Level Basketball Champion.
The Sportsman's Oath and the Sportsman's Prayer were recited, which stated that, "A true sportsman is one who is fair on the sports field and competes healthily without grudge or despair."
Four house teams from St. Joseph's then exhibited an impressive March Past display, after which the Chief Guest declared the meet open and young athletes then locked horns in a bid for glory.
