MUMBAI, NOV 8, 2017: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Mumbai organised a free health camp for the residents of the slums of Kurla. Nearly 300 people including women, men and children benefited from the camp, held under the aegis of 'Flood Relief Project' supported by Don Bosco Mondo, Germany.
"The objective of this camp is to provide free medical help to flood affected families so that they can rebuild their lives," Father Rolvin D'Mello, Executive Director – DBDS, said.
Blood pressure tests, sugar level examination, skin and eye check up were among the services made available to people. Those with defective eye-sight were given spectacles at a subsidised cost of Rupees 60 to 100 only.
Fifteen female volunteers from the slums helped with the arrangements- before and after the camp. They visited people in their homes to inform them about the free facilities available. They set up equipment on the camp day and even helped with crowd management.
"We are very grateful to Don Bosco for this service – if not for them we would have never received such a great help," Sujaya Shetty, who availed of the medical facilities, said.
The camp was held in collaboration with Mumbai Smiles Foundation and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Doctors Jayendra Gawade, Shrutika Gawade, Naresh and their team of general physicians and para-medical staff examined the people during the camp.
