by Father Bento D'Souza

KARJAT, FEB 3, 2018: A Don Bosco Yuva Sanstha (DBYS) led training programme for 75 Adivasi youth from an Ashram school in Mangaonvadi, Maharashtra ended on February 1, with the youth from standard nine adding to their skill sets in stitching, Refrigeration and Air conditioning (RAC) and basic electrical know how.

The youth from the school, located 19 kilometres from DBYS, on the Neral Matheran road, began the course on November 16, with two DBYS instructors, namely Ganesh Bhopi and Sandeep Gaikwad visiting their institution every Thursday, Friday and Saturday to impart RAC and electrician skills, while Kavita More taught 25 girls stitching and gave classes in fashion designing.

The youth felt that the new skills would help them join the Government ITI. The girls used their skills to make curtains, carry bags and clothes. Some of the students who completed the apprenticeship training said that if they did not get entrance into the Government ITI, they would come to DBYS Karjat.
