MUMBAI, AUGUST 16, 2018: The youth group of Our Lady of Dolours Church, Wadala organised a Marian Quiz for the catechism students on August 12, to prepare the children for the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The event began with each of the eight teams marching into the hall with their group flag, dancing to various Marian songs. It was a sight to behold, as teachers and students marched in following the dance steps of their leader. They were then invited to take their places around the tables allotted to them. This was immediately followed by a short prayer and the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Parish Priest, Father Vivian D'Souza, Father Mylin Noronha, a Sunday school catechist and a student.
To set the tone for the competition, Abigail Texeira and Tania D'Souza, led the expectant competitors through the various rounds. The youth comperes maintained the discipline of the competitors, as group leaders rushed back and forth with sealed envelopes or completed activity sheets, having decoded Marian messages, sketched portraits of Mother Mary, solved jigsaw puzzles or guessed the tune of a long forgotten Marian hymn.
After some stiff competition, the team under the patronage of Our Lady of Vailankanni won the first place. More importantly, though, it was heartening to see that every group went home with some token of love from Mamma Mary in the form of gifts and prizes.
