FOOTBALL MANIA AT DON BOSCO

LONAVALA, JULY 22, 2012:  Don Bosco Lonavala, in its Green Year, witnessed an exciting Inter school 5-a-side Football Tournament organised by the Past Pupils Association.  Five schools from in and around Lonavala participated in this festival of the football sport.  The tournament ended in a thrilling final between Don Bosco (A) and Kendriya Vidyalaya (A) teams.  Don Bosco (A) emerged champions with a 6-1 score over the Kendriya Vidyalaya Team.  The enthusiasm and energy of both the team players set the pulse of the audience racing till the last minute.  The winning team was seen rising steadily throughout the tournament.  With their skilful passing and sportsmanship they secured a victory in every match.  But the runners up KV team played tough customers to the Don Bosco Team.  Three rises by Don Bosco early in the game earned the KV Team a penalty and the score was 1-0.  But the DB Team gave a quick reply with a goal by Alrick D’souza.  Within another two minutes, Harishankar Boro scored another for the DB Team.  In the second half, Alrick converted a penalty and a minute later scored his third goal but had to quit the game due to an injury.  Another two quick goals by Harishankar and Ganesh Sharma respectively led Don Bosco to a swift victory.
It was the brilliance of Saurabh, a sixth grader from D.C. School that captivated the hearts of the audience.  His skills against opponents much older and taller than him in age and height respectively, rightfully earned him the medal and certificate for the Best Player of the Tournament.  Top scorer Alrick took away a certificate for his twenty goals in the tournament of which three were scored in the finals.  The DB Team comprising of Alrick D’souza, Joel Almeida, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Harishankar Boro, Shrikant Pillai, Ganesh Sharma and Ronaldo Nair were elated and at the same time satisfied that they had an enjoyable day playing their favourite sport.  Fr. Glenford Lowe of the Mumbai Province, who was the Chief Guest for the event congratulated all the participants and thanked them for their enjoyable game.  Congratulations Don Bosco Lonavala.
